VOTING has now finished - Final results

Iestyn ap Dafydd

  • Iestyn is a top, top co-driver, as good in the car as with everything to do with PR.

Simon Ashton

  • Met him, really nice man.
  • For being the greatest living rally encyclopedia and if he doesn't know the answer, he'll have a book that does! Make him your rally phone-a-friend!
  • There is no one like him. I think he deserves this award, he's really worth it.
  • The new-coming star.
  • He is the best!
  • Needs a quicker driver to be appreciated, but is one fine co-driver.
  • Consistently good results right through the season. Has performed very well for the last few years and deserves some recognition.
  • Simon is a very dedicated and versatile navigator. He is also very thorough.

Simon Ashton is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Jonty Bolsover

  • Absolute star both in and out the car and has helped me along the way

Jonty Bolsover is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Derek Brannigan

  • Derek is such a polite hard-working guy, very mannerly and always doing a good job.

Martin Brady

  • I have nominated Martin Brady as my number one choice because he is involved a lot with Irish rallying and has devoted a lot of time and effort through the last few years trying to work his way up to be a top co-driver.
  • Martin is an exceptionally dedicated navigator whose commitment and passion for rallying should help him rise to greater heights.
  • Martin definitely deserves a vote as top co-driver if only for the amount of time he spends on the phone talking to people about rallying. If he doesn't soon learn something from all them phone calls, he will have shares in O2!!
  • I've yet to meet or hear of any co-driver who puts more effort into their job. Martin has proved himself to be highly skilled, motivated and hugely professional. I would like to see him get some recognition for this.
  • This guy has come a long way over the past 2/3 seasons. Deserves to be the next Irishman, alongside Damien Connolly, to navigate in the WRC!! With his workrate, he definitely should!
  • Martin is the relatively new kid moving up the block and as Frank Sinatra says, "If he can't make it there he willl make it anywhere...." I recomend him any day.
  • Martin is a very friendly competitor. He is very helpful to other competitors even when he is busy himself like in a service area. He helped my son and I gained a very positive image of the friendly ambience and craic of Irish tarmac rallying.
  • Go on the Naaavan!!!!!
  • Can't wait to see Martin on more events.
  • This guy deserves the award, looking like he might hit the big time this year thanks to his great work ethic.
  • Martin Brady is the hardest trier and a great diplomat - talks his way out of anything!
  • Martin really is a sound bloke. From the first time Ispoke to him he was full of advice and help as I am hoping to sit a few rallies on the real side of the rally car, passenger lol. Martin is always up for a chat and will do anything to give you a dig out. Everybody should vote for him.
  • I vote for Martin Brady as he is one of Ireland's up-and-coming co-drivers. He is also an excellent rally co ordinator having worked for a few top rally prep outfits. He is working his way up the ranks of Irish co-driving and now with the impressive Cathal Arthurs in his Hyundai Accent WRC.

Martin Brady is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Sarah Carcillo

  • 2004 was Sarah's first-ever year in motorsport . We think she read the Blue Book from cover to cover. As a nervous passenger no-one who knew her ever thought she would last more than one stage but, by the end of the first real rally (Tour of Cornwall), her competitive edge was showing through. Highly motivated she embraced pace notes for Mewla and spent much of the event geeing on her driver although I don't think she could have seen the big drops. As a crew, Sarah and driver both came overall runners-up in the ASWMC Sealed Surface Championship; I feel it fair to say, "Not bad for her first year out!"

Damien Connelly

  • Well earned his seat with Ford in the WRC. Probably the best co-driver in Ireland.

Camilla Cooper

  • Camilla hasn't been co-driving very long at all but she is very enthusiastic, knows exactly what she is doing and will come on leaps and bounds in 2005!

Neil Dashfield

  • Absolute star both in and out the car and has helped me along the way
  • Great guy. Always willing to offer advice. Great ambassador for the sport and does lots of work in community with Round Table.

Neil Dashfield is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Howard Davies

  • For sitting next to me on San Remo '91!
  • I worked with this guy on Subaru Rally Team Canada this year and part of last year. A great guy to have on the team; non-stop jokes. He got along with everyone and never made things difficult for anyone. A star bloke!

Richard Edwards

  • Richard has really shone through and proved he is a Champion! He is the calmest and most organised co-driver I know and he really deserves a great seat this year!

Richard Edwards is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Rob Fagg

  • Rob Fagg is a guy who will really shine this year after a good 2004.

Rob Fagg is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Nigel Gardner

  • When it comes to the paperwork & getting things right he's the man. He has the talent & the b.....s. 100% commitment and I can only say good luck to the drivers who have had the pleasure of this man's talent.
  • Has shown excellent performance throughout 2004 and appeared on the back page of my local newspaper (Rhymney Valley Express) many times.
  • Apart from being very successful with Jeremy Easson in the past, Nigel has gone on and taken Steve Fleck from being a quick driver to being a very quick driver and also a winner.
  • Nigel has worked very hard over the past few years to become, in my opinion, one of the leading lights in co-drivers in Britain. He is always there to help up-and-coming co-drivers and puts a huge amount of his time into every rally he does (ask the drivers he has sat with) and is, as I write, recruiting more people to join the newly-resurrected Heads of the Valley Auto Club. A stalwart of rally sport, if ever there was one!
  • Nice bloke!
  • Not just a 'top co-driver', offers great enthusiasm, energy and commitment to the sport. Apart from that he's very, very nice looking too!
  • He rocks! Awesome co-driver, top class.

Nigel Gardner is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Jason Grahn

  • Jason Grahn represents all of the components of what a key member of the rally racing team should be. He is tireless in his commitment to racing. He has an unwavering focus on the safety of himself, his driver and others. Jason is notably talented. He is recognized as one of the most well-versed rally racers, speaking to the structure of the sport. He has introduced the sport to many people, old and young alike, and encourages participation on all levels. Jason is more than a competent co-driver. He is a serious student of the sport. He spends hours studying and researching techniques. He consistently demonstrates his ability to anticipate, study, and prepare for any level of challenge on the course. This is what makes him truly valuable to the driver.

Jason Grahn is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Steve Greenhill

  • For all his rally navigational training and for always having a big smile on his face.

Richard Hage

  • Richard has given me so much help and advice. He has always got time to explain and help.

Ger Healy

  • Ger is comical. Great hearing him on the notes to Jack all year!!!

Janice Hooley

  • Janice is a star and a very good friend and she has only been co-driving since 2004 and is the Heart of England Women's Champion already!
  • First year in 2004, wants to learn, wants to shine and will do in 2005.
  • Janice has given me so much help and advice. She has always got time to explain and help.
  • Helped me to my first victory in the Peugeot 205 Scholarship (at the Malcom Wilson last month). Brilliant!

Janice Hooley is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Mark Iley

  • It was Mark Iley's first season in rallying. He is a cool level-headed co-driver who, in my opinion, could go a lot further in the sport than his driver (me).

Dave Kean

  • I am voting for Dave because he has been an inspiration to me and a great friend as well.
  • Renowned all over the Northwest for his argumentative skills!
  • Great co-driver in the NW events as well as UK
  • The man is a bloody loony, but seems to be good on the maps. Forgot to add, drinks like a fish and is really good to his mum.
  • Dave rocks!!
  • Dave was gracious enough to sit with me on my first rally. He helped me through the entire event from registration to the dinner afterwards and made it a far easier. Great co-driver.
  • He always makes ME faster... so I'm sure he's having a similar impact on your side of the pond!
  • Dave Kean is THE MAN in the silly seat.
  • Dave is a great guy! He is always professional, and always willing to help and give advice to others who are finding their way. If he could drink like an Aussie, he would be even better!
  • Much safer in the co-driver's seat!
  • Dave asked me to vote for him.
  • Really helped get me and my co-driver ready for our first event (Rim of the World).
  • Dave sat with me last year and made my first rally so easy. Took care of all the details, made sure we were prepared and by the time we arrived at the start of stage 1. I knew all I had to do was drive and "keep it on the island".
  • Great co-driver and an even better friend. He is a very knowledgeable and extremely well prepared co-driver that approaches the sport with a level of professionalism rarely seen in North America. As a bonus he has an endless list of anecdotes and stories for long transits. I feel very lucky to have have him in the car; I know he has made a difference."

Dave Kean is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Jakes Kelly

  • What a colorful guy and a great listener.

Paul Kiely

  • Mr Cool in any crisis - punctures on the Jim Clark and 120 mph slides in Donegal included. I recommend him any day.
  • I think Paul Kiely should get top co-driver of the year for, as Eugene Donnelly said after the Galway Intenational Rally, if it wasn't for his co-driver being such a cool b......s he wouldn't be standing here.
  • Hard-working co-driver and hope to see him as Irish Tarmac champion again.

Cindy Krolikowski

  • Cindy Krolikowski, a mainstay of American rallying for 20 years, is my choice. She is well spoken, astute, extremely bright, industrious, and has a competitive spirit unlike any co-driver I have had the pleasure of driving with. She has adapted well as the sport has progressed from a fast-paced TSD format to modern stage rallying with notes. Go Cindy!

Andrew Lehane

  • Andrew is one of the up-and-coming co-drivers in Ireland.

Scott Martin

  • Scott is a fine young man and best of luck to him and Matt Wilson in the WRC together; they are a great team and I hope they stay together.

Mark Mason

  • A true gentleman and character as well as an extremely talented and professional co-driver. His talents shone in winning the 205 1.9 Challenge last year.
  • Mark won overall at Wilbarston in April with Chris Bayliss as driver. Brilliant work done by both - Mark's first overall win for 20 years.

Tony Matthews

  • Because he was a fantastic person to have in the car; his enthusiasm, humour and keeness to progress in motorsport couldn't be surpassed. Everybody that met him remembered him; he was a larger-than-life character that was one in a million. Sadly he died in May 2004 in a car accident. Tony was aged 23 and had had a great future ahead of him. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

Phil Mills

  • Fastest British co-driver in the WRC - only mechanical problems prevented him retaining his World title.

Phil Mills is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Brian Murphy

  • Brian is a legend beside the one-and-only Austin MacHale.

Julie Murphy

  • First year of rallying... Sick on every stage on her first event. 1st Dunlop Gold Star Lady Co-Driver in just 11 months.

Paul Nagle

  • Because he is one of the best co-drivers in Ireland.
  • Paul Nagle is the best co-driver in Ireland.

Mike Panes (1960 - 2005)

  • No explanation necessary - competitive, determined, generous, skilled, professional!

Sadly, Mike died in March 2005. As a tribute to him, we have kept his Top Co-driver profile on the website for you to read.

Richard Pashley

  • One of the best - a natural.....

Richard Pashley is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Richard was the winner of the Top Co-driver Award in 2002

Jim Plevey

  • Jim is not just a decent co-driver but is also a really nice bloke with a 'gsoh' as they say in other less-respectable web sites and to spend 4 days on the RAC with him without sleep (cos we went off and had to stop up all night mending the car) and without falling out takes a bit of a special partnership. And he can operate the trip, maps, road book and ice cream chimes whilst dishing out drinks, pies and chocolate all at the same time. I'm biased but here goes - "Vote Plevey."

Andrew Purcell

  • Andrew is a great driver first but a very good co-driver as he can tell you how and where to be quick.

Julia Rabett

  • For winning the Targa Tasmania - tarmac event over 4 days with new driver and in weather ranging from hot sunny days to snow and ice. Showing the Aussies that good co-drivers can win rallies.

Nathalie Richard

  • Last year, she won the Canadian, American, and North American overall championships, as well as the Canadian Ladies' Champ!
  • She won the Canadian, American, and North American overall championships in '04, as well as the Canadian Ladies' Championship. Nobody (male or female) has ever won the hat trick in North America.
  • Cause she (and her brother Pat) won the Canadian, American, and North American overall Championships (aka HAT TRICK) last year...plus she was the Canadian Ladies' Champ!!!
  • Because she swept the co-driving categories in North America last year.
  • She ROCKS!!
  • Last year Nath won the Canadian, American, and North American overall championships, as well as the Canadian Ladies' Champ. Nobody (male or female) has ever won the hat trick in North America yet ...
  • Last year she won the Canadian, American, and North American overall championships, as well as the Canadian Ladies Champ - a feat never achieved before.
  • Her achievements speak for themselves. And I'm sure the best is yet to come.
  • Nat and Pat were the best duo rally drivers I ever witnessed!
  • Simply because she is the BEST rallycodriver ever ever! She is very dedicated and I think any team should love to have her on their team since she is a master of motivating, pep-talking and encouraging others in the team!
  • What a legend effort this year!
  • Great driver with great personality
  • She's the best,,,, just look at what they have won over the last year or two.......EVERYTHING.

Nathalie Richard is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Kirsty Riddick

  • Kirsty has gone from strength to strength this year and should be commended for her ability to co-drive and consume Haribo Starmix at an alarming rate at the same time. Sitting with Jonny Milner capped a fine year for the youngster who guided Tom Metcalfe to the Fiat Stilo Cup title. A bright future awaits for Kirsty - in confectionery.
  • At the tender age of 19, she was the youngest co-driver in the 2004 BRC, but what she lacked in age she made up for in enthusiasm and determination, helping Tom Metcalfe win the Fiat Stilo Championship. She never stops smiling! A true star in the making.
  • Kept Tom on the road to win the Stilo Cup last year (2004).

Holly Robinson

  • Holly has 100% commitment, organisation and enthusiasm. Without doubt THE BEST lady co-driver presently competing in Britain and the ANCRO Junior Champion. Need I say more?

Dave Robson

  • Dave was an integral part of the success of Lorna Smith in winning the BRC Ladies' Championship and getting 2nd place overall in Group N and 10th in the overall BRC championship - all in Lorna's first season in the BRC!

Clare Samuel

  • The no nuts rallygirl that swaps seats and has always got plenty of encouragement (make of that what you will!).

Neil Shanks

  • Hopefully Neil will have a better season with both drivers now having newer cars to push a bit harder with!!

Neil Shanks is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Greg Shinnors

  • Greg is already at the top. He is the guru who called his first note from the pram, "Right one Flat, it's flat, go on, it's flat," and seems like he has been rallying for 50 years. I recommend him any day.
  • Greg competed here in USA and showed us just how pro those Irish guys are.

Dave Taylor

  • For his ability to stay horizontal in a crisis.

Patrick Walsh

  • Patrick is the best road rally navigator in Wales. What a boyo, a great help to clubs and competitors alike.

Patrick Walsh is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Carl Williamson

  • Most dedicated man I know in the sport. Has time for everyone. Even has time to do road rallies in his spare time. Can co-drive from World Rallies to night events.
  • Great guy, time for everyone, good all-rounder.

Carl Williamson is featured in the rallycodriver Top Co-driver Hall of Fame

Comments about more than one co-driver

Martin Brady, Paul Kiely and Paul Gallagher

  • All hard-working navigators. Definitely the top boys on this side of the water (Ireland).

Martin Brady, Enda Sherry, Gavin Gallagher and Rebecca Walsh

  • All top guys!

Shelley Rogerson, Gemma Price, Holly Robinson, Bob Stock and Vicky Johnson

  • All very talented co-drivers, well organized, know how to pull the rally all together.

Andrew Lehane, Paul Nagle, Greg Shinnors, James O'Brian, Dan Barry

  • These are the finest co-drivers in Ireland.

Gordon Noble, Rory Kennedy, Phil Mills, Michael Gibson, Trevor Agnew

  • A top group of co-drivers in all regards

Nigel Gardner, John Youd, Rob Fagg

  • Because all of these co-drivers have helped me out and given me some really sound advice. They are all people that I could ring up in a panic and they would be able to help! Thanks guys!

Richard Edwards, Patrick Walsh, Shelley Rogerson, Scott Martin, Martin Brady

  • All (but Scott) have helped me last year. Richard is a superstar, Shelley is so committed, Scott - oh my god, getting Mathew (Wilson) where he is must be such a difficult job, loads of pressure and he appears to handle it well.

Gordon Noble, Martin Brady and Dermot O'Gorman

  • 3 deserving votes, from the consumately professional, to the confidently experienced, and not forgetting the eager apprentice. See if you can guess which is which? All top guys.

Paul Heath, Stuart Leach, Simon Taylor and Neil Burgess

  • These are the unsung heroes of the BRC!

Beef Park, Phil Mills and Dermot O'Gorman

  • For sitting next to mad drivers!

Dave Robson, Stewart Merry, Scott Martin, Neil Shanks and Patrick Walsh

  • All excellent navigators who have helped their drivers achieve high degrees of success.

Jeff Secor, Cindy Krolikowski, Dave Kean, Christian Edstrom and Jimmy Brandt

  • Probably the top 5 co-drivers in the US right now. Experienced, reliable and generous with their time.

Phil Mills, Nicky Grist, Carl Williamson, Neil Bevan and Nigel Gardner

  • All are Welsh and brilliant. They have `cut their teeth` in Welsh road rallying lanes, with maps on their laps. Phil has personally told me that many international co-drivers cannot read maps that well; when there are route problems and diversions, road rally navigators will sort it out reasonably easily, because we have good `map power`. Nicky`s road rally maps of the past were unbelieveable. He has sat with the best!! Carl Williamson has done so much as a `up-and-coming` youngster. Neil Bevan is an ex-pupil of mine from the school I teach at, and he is the current Welsh Road Rally Champion Navigator. He will go far. He is committed, keen and a true professional. Nigel has done very well; he has done everything in rallying, and has proved himself with Jeremy Easson, Steve Fleck and others. All are exceptional in very different ways, and levels...but all are Welsh!!
