| Best rally memory: |
Beating (ex-National Champion),
Graham Middleton, who I sat beside in 2000, on the Bulldog in October
2001. On the event we won our class and finished ahead of Graham by a
mere 14 seconds in a great "head to head", which lasted the
whole day - with both of us trading times on the stages - Graham's tutoring
works!!!!!!!! |
| Strangest incident on a rally: |
Looking up from my map on stage
two of the Red Dragon and seeing two wild horses running in front of the
car whilst Seamus was flat in third gear - and thinking that I was about
to have a horse sandwich at any moment! |
| Biggest accident: |
Last stage, last 100 yards,
last small yump, hitting it flat in 5th, with Tracey driving - the car
getting all out of shape, with Tracey letting go of the steering wheel
and shouting, "Robert, what do I do now?" I didn't know.
I read maps! And, with that, we took out (splitting in two) 7 concrete
posts and 60 yards of 8 feet high chain link fence - the little Peugeot
was not well! |
| Achievements from rallying: |
You are always learning every
time you are in a rally car so, just getting to the end of the event,
either last or first, you are always achieving something. I have
also gained some great friends along the way. |
| Your current
performance |
|
| How could you improve your
own current performance? |
Continue to co-drive for as
many people as I can and, most of all, to compete abroad |
| How could you improve your
current driver's performance? |
Just make sure I have all my
side of the job done - to win the lottery and buy the car my current driver
deserves. |
| If you had £50,000 to spend
on rallying, what would you do? |
Put a "tight" budget
together with Andy and compete in selected World Junior Championship rounds
- and Win!! |
| Your future
in rallying |
|
| Where would you most like to
compete (in the world): |
Any APC round |
| Which rally would you most
like to compete in? |
Rally of New Zealand |
| Which driver(s) would you most
like to co-drive for? |
Any works' drivers - particularly,
Carlos Sainz |
| Ambition in rallying for the
future: |
To compete at the highest level
of the BRC and then progress to a full programme of WRC events |
| What would you like to put
back into rallying? |
To give as much help as I could
do so to anyone wishing to gain more knowledge of the sport |
| The future
of rallying |
|
| Which up-and-coming rally driver
can you recommend? |
Andy Burnell and Alistair Ginley |
| Which up-and-coming rally
co-driver can you recommend? |
** Carl Williamson |
| What would be the best tip
you could give to other co-drivers? |
To do as many rallies as you
can with as many different drivers as is possible. Don't be afraid
to sit next to someone completely different, as we co-drivers are like
sponges - there are always different things to absorb and learn. |
| Any other
comments |
I would like
to thank Graham Middleton for teaching me the things he has and thank
him for the time he has given me.
Rallycodriver is a brilliant company and
should be used by anyone wishing to gain more knowledge regarding the
sport of rallying.
