Best result: Winning Killarney International Rally of the Lakes 7 times – 5 times in a row 1990-1995, plus 1997 and 2000

Best Championship result: Four times Irish Tarmac Champions – 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1996
Best rally memory: Competing with the late Bertie Fisher from 1989 – 2000, winning 17 International Rallies and four Tarmac Championship titles along the way – need I say anymore….
Strangest incident on a rally: Having to push Mark Fisher up a snowy hill in Hamsterley during the RAC Rally 1996. We got stuck initially, very close to the top, so I got out to push and Mark tried to reverse further up – eventually he got some grip and somehow made it to the top, but couldn’t stop for me in case he couldn’t get going again, so here I had to run after him in atrocious conditions and in total darkness over a distance that seemed miles – we were the last car to get up the hill before the stage eventually became totally impassable.
Biggest accident: Donegal 1985 – Destroyed an Opel Ascona 400, over the famous Kindrum jump - while flat-out! (James McDaid)

West Cork 1991 – Destroyed a red Ford Sierra Sapphire 4x4 over a flat-out jump (Bertie Fisher)

Manx 1999 – Formula 1 accident with Robert Woodside in a Barretts Group N Subaru – destruction derby!!!

Achievements gained from rallying: Travelled to many parts of the UK, Ireland and other countries. Met some interesting people and made many helpful contacts – business growth within the rally fraternity enormous.

I will be competing in the "Flora London Marathon" on Sunday 18th April - not depending on horse-power this time and not seeded in the top 10!

I think- but I'm not sure - I may be the only do-driver taking part in the marathon. Hopefully I will survive the 26.2 miles and the Donegal Association for Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus will benefit fully from my endeavour.

I should be fully recovered and fit for the Pirelli Rally next weekend when Alistair Ginley and I will debut the newly-acquired Subaru Impreza WRC S9, previously used by Petter Solberg on the Monte Carlo Rally in 2004.

Rory

Just arrived home from hospital where I have been for the past 12 days following an horrific accident while co-driving with Brendan Kelly on the Killarney Rally of the Lakes.

We both suffered pelvic, rib and ankle breakages, but Brendan also suffered a neck injury which looked very bad at the time.  However, with the passing of time, I am happy to report he will make a full and a speedy recovery.

The Mitsubishi Evo 7 run by David Greer Motorsport was completely destroyed and we were very lucky to escape with the help of many of our fellow competitors.

Obviously I am not in any condition to co-drive for Alistair Ginley on this weekend's Rally of Wales, but Craig Thorley will deputise, and we will re-appraise my condition before the Scottish.

Regards,
Rory
